Headed to Hampton, Virginia

hampton virginiaI promised an update once I’d chosen a place to visit.

Ta-Da! That place is Hampton, Virginia.

I love that I’ll be so close to the water, but I just hope it isn’t too chilly. I’ll be spending the entire month of October there. Actually, two streets away from the water, which is amazing. I can imagine I’ll have to bundle up on my walks. To prepare myself for all the walking, since I won’t have a car, I’ve been walking every morning; increasing my distance each day. Strangely, my ankles hurt. Might be time for new sneakers.

Since booking my stay in Hampton, I found this website called Walk Score, which will tell you how walkable a city is, or whether you need a car to do most things. That will surely be a good resource going forward.

Like I’d mentioned in my previous post, I’m avoiding expensive hotels and staying with people who list their homes on AirBnB. I know. I’ve heard the horror stories, too, but I feel good about the people I’ve chosen. It’s a couple with three dogs. They dog-and-fishmentioned a koi pond in the backyard, so I’m immediately picturing myself lounging outside petting a dog while I watch the fish. This is what I’m thinking it’ll be like. Probably not, but I can dream! ————->

In reality, I’ll probably be stuck working most of the day since I’ll need to pay ahead for my next month, and the month after that, and so on…

I haven’t even planned what I’ll experience there. All I’ve researched is nearby locations to get food, toiletries and essentials within walking distance. This whole “no car” thing has me nervous. I never considered myself reliant on a vehicle, but apparently, I am! Thank goodness for Lyft and Uber. That’s how I’ll likely get to attractions.

Now that there’s a countdown of five days until launch, I’m in a bit of a tizzy. Yeah, I said tizzy.

I still have to clean out my apartment, get rid of most of my stuff, and pack.

I don’t want to spend my entire day in museums, but there seem to be a lot in the vicinity. Once I’m there, I’ll wing it! There have to be more places to visit. And I’ll see what my hosts suggest.

I’ll be sharing pictures here during my trip perhaps. Or I might start an Instagram account to share pictures only, and posts for when I have something to share that isn’t boring.

Anyone have suggestions for things I should see or experience in Hampton, Virginia?
